Welcome to Garden & Porch

Mindfully: philosophy, sociology, history, art, motivation & stories…

Reflection

Garden & Porch is a reflective space for stories, ideas, and creative expression, grounded in the balance between two enduring philosophical traditions: Epicureanism and Stoicism. The Garden draws inspiration from Epicurus, who taught in a garden alongside his students, valuing freedom, pleasure, friendship, and choice; the Porch refers to the Greek stoa, where Zeno shared Stoic ideas centred on discipline, order, and responsibility.

Together, Garden & Porch represents the tension—and harmony—between these opposing forces. It is a belief that life is richest when structure exists without suffocating freedom, and when choice is guided by wisdom rather than constraint. The site brings together diverse stories, perspectives, art, history and reflections that invite readers to pause, think, and engage with the world more deliberately.

Garden & Porch is not about arriving at fixed answers, but about creating space for contemplation, curiosity, and dialogue—where order and freedom meet.
